The first ever Heart & Sole Festival of Miles, sponsored by the Blood Centers of the Pacific is an exciting event for all interests and all abilities. We'll be having heat after heat of mile races, seeded by age and ability, as well as some invitational races, plus two Elite Miles with some of the world's best milers! FREE Fun Runs!Stop by each and Every Tuesday, 5:30pm for a low-key fun-run with runners of all interests and abilities. Our very own Downtown Kenny Brown will lead a short run, complete with stretching, and foster a fun, community environment. So what are you waiting for? Lace up those shoes and come on down! Up Coming RacesThe Sonoma Valley Footrace has both a 5K run/walk or an advanced 10K run, both winding through the scenic grounds of Sonoma Developmental Center. The 10K for a challenging run through stunning scenery, both on- and off-road. Pass lakes and run through woods in the hills above Sonoma. For a less challenging run or walk, the 5K course which also winds through the beautiful grounds of the center on mostly level pavement. Both races start at 9:00 a.m. The SVF features chip timing, live music, raffle, kids carnival and fun run, food, wine and beer tasting, and car show, not to mention an awesome 10k course. For more information, and to register, go here. Girls on the Run is a life-changing, non-profit prevention program for girls in the 3rd through 8th grade. With a mission to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living, our 24-lesson curriculum combines training for a 5K (3.1 miles) running event with health-based lessons that inspire girls to become independent thinkers, enhance their problem solving skills, and make healthy decisions. All of this is accomplished through an active collaboration with girls and their parents, schools, volunteers, staff and the community. This 5K Fun Run/Walk helps raise funds to support these girls as they run and grow. Info and registration here. We're stoked to again parter with adidas to sponsor the Empire Runners Summer Track series for 2012! This series involves 5 Tuesday-evening meets, with events from 100m to 5,000m. All ages and abilities are welcome. As was the case last year, we will be running the adidas/Heart and Sole Grand Prix, which will give out some awesome adidas prizes for at the end of the series! For full information click the above link. The Santa Rosa Marathon is a double 13.1 mile loop that starts in Juilliard Park in downtown Santa Rosa. It is a flat, fast Boston Qualified course that loops the entire scenic Prince Memorial Greenway. Last year, Santa Rosa's very own Julia Stamps ran away with the race, qualifying for the US Olympic Trials in the Marathon! If you want to run fast, check out the SR Marathon/Half/5K this August Spring Has Sprung, the signature event of the Lake County Milers, will be held Sunday, May 20, 2012, beginning at 8 AM in Hidden Valley Lake. Races include a challenging 10K run and a flat 5K run/walk, plus a kids' untimed 1K fun race (and every kid who crosses the finish line gets a coupon for a Big Chill frozen yogurt!). Valuable prizes go to the top winners in the 10K and 5K races, and medals will be awarded three deep in age and gender divisions. For more information and to register check out their event site.
Past EventsThe third annual Donut Run, put on by the Lake County Milers will be held Saturday, April 28, at 8 AM (race-day registration begins at 7:15 AM) in the picturesque downtown of Kelseyville, Calif. This 5K walk/run race is ideal for those who want to achieve a new personal record (PR) or just start the fair-weather running season and get in training mode for upcoming races. Donuts, coffee and juice are served afterward to all entrants. And, the shirt's have a running donut on them; what could be better?! Info and registration here. The SSU School of Business and Econ is hosting their 3rd annual 5K fundraiser, which benefits the Boys and Girls club of Rohnert Park. The race starts at 11:30am, and is just $10! This inaugural HS-only relay event on Channel Drive saw teams of 4 traverse Channel two times for a total of 8 miles, handing off wherever, whenever. The fastest team, "Puma A Team", used short legs and many hand-offs to run to victory. Full information/results can be found on the Saucony/Heart and Sole Channel Challenge page. We were fortunate enough to have a bunch of pro runners from the Bay Area Track Club come to Santa Rosa HS for an interactive clinic. Lots of young runners out there learning from the best; hopefully we can make this an annual tradition! The Bay Area Track Club hosted the first ever BAXC this January, and it was awesome! For those not in the know, the BATC is the home of some world class runners, including World Championship medalist Shannon Rowberry, Olympian Bolota Asmerom, and H&S Elite Mile winner Tim Bayley. Several locals went down to the city to compete, so check out the BATC website for a recap and some awesome pictures! Casa Grande HS of Petaluma was glad to host the 7th annual Turkey Leg Relays, the big undraiser for the Casa XC program. Heart and Sole's very own Vojta Ripa and Rory McLeod took home top honors, setting the meet record (breaking H&S's own Gerald McCormick and Alex Wolf-Root's record) and won themselves a nice turkey! GobbleGobble! The Lake County Milers presented its third annual 5K run/walk (10 a.m.) and kids ½K and 1K run (9:30 a.m.) at the Crazy Creek Glider Port, four miles north of Middletown on Hwy 29. The races (on a scenic course with paved/compacted dirt) were followed by beer and brats for adults, hot dogs and sodas for children. Keep your eye out for next year's event, so you can run and have fun with Lake County's fitness-oriented running and walking club! On Sunday, October 3rd, many runners from all over Sonoma County took part in this great tradition by running in the YMCA's Harvest Fair! This year there were three different distances: 1K untimed fun-run/walk, a 10K, and a brand new 5K. Congrats to all who participated! The 2nd annual Santa Rosa Marathon and Half-Marathon was once again a success! Add in the "Save the Pools" 5K fundraiser and there were 803 finishers in total! Not only was the fundraiser successul in raising lots of money for the Finley swim centers, but it gave a glimpse into the future of Redwood Empire Running, with Rylee Bowen, 11, who won in an amazing 18:15! Led by former Heart and Sole employee Vojta Ripa, nearly 300 runners completed this year's Fitch Mountain Footrace! The runners started and finished at the Historic Downtown Plaza, then were able to hang out and enjoy a day in the wine country with great restaurants, world class wineries and the beautiful Russian River. Runners and walkers of all abilities joined the widespread effort and campaign to help the Amgen Tour of California continue to be a successful and integral part of our Santa Rosa community by running in the inaugural Keep the Tour 10K Fun Run. Proceeds were donated to the fund raising pool to help Santa Rosa retain stage 2 in the 2010 Amgen Tour of California.
Dr. Alec Isabeau, D.C., offered this clinic for any and all endurance athletes. A lifelong runner who has worked to keep running through injury, Dr. Isabeau sharee Five Durability/Performance Enhancement Exercises to Supplement Endurance Training to help athletes can stay nimble, whatever their sport.
Congrats to all those who Turkey-Day off right by running or walking 5k to celebrate our feathery friends at Sebastopol's second annual Save a Turkey Trot! In honor of the top three male and female finishers, turkeys were adopted from the Farm Sanctuary.
